The EAC Ex certificate of conformity (formerly GOST R Ex certificate) is an equivalent of the certification issued by European Notified Bodies under Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX). It is required for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, including components intended to be incorporated into such equipment and systems. An explosive atmosphere is characterized by the presence of flammable gases, vapors, mists or dusts. In the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia) the certification of explosion-proof equipment takes place only with the intervention of a local Notified Body and Test Laboratory according to the schemes indicated in the correspondence table below. From the point of view of technical requirements, product verification is based on the localized version of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and EN (European Committee for Standardization - CEN) standards.
The certification of explosion-proof equipment is regulated by the Technical Regulation CU TR 012/2011, which mainly is a modified version of ATEX directive.
The above-mentioned Technical Regulation does not apply to: - medical equipment intended for use in a medical environment; - protective equipment and systems, where the explosion hazard is due exclusively to the presence of explosive substances or unstable chemical substances; - appliances intended for use in domestic and non-commercial environments, in which a potentially explosive atmosphere may be caused only rarely and only as a result of an accidental gas leak; - personal protective equipment, subject of the Technical Regulation CU TR 019/2011 (PPE); - seagoing vessels and mobile offshore units, as well as equipment used on board such vessels or units; - means of transport (vehicles and their trailers intended solely for the transport of persons by air or on public road, rail or waterway networks and means of transport, insofar as they are designed to transport goods by air or on public road, rail or waterway networks); - nuclear weapons, nuclear machines (reactors) for scientific and military purposes, with the exception of explosion-proof equipment installed on such machines.
Classification of areas with explosion hazard: • Zone 0, 1 e 2 – explosive atmospheres due to the presence of gases (vapours and mists) • Zone 20, 21 e 22 – explosive atmospheres due to the presence of combustible dust

Classification of explosion-proof equipment (CU TR 012 / IECEx):
• Group I (Ma, Mb (Mc)) – equipment intended for underground work in mines and in their surface installations exposed to the risk of release of firedamp and/or combustible dust; • Group II (IIA, IIB, IIC) – equipment, other than those in group I, intended for environments in which an explosive atmosphere due to mixtures of air and gas (vapours and mists) is present; • Group III (IIIA, IIIB, IIIC) – equipment, other than those in group I, intended for environments in which an explosive atmosphere due to mixtures of air and dust is detected.

EAC Ex marking The EAC Ex conformity marking consists of the graphic symbol in accordance with the model provided in the Decision of the Commission of the Customs Union No. 711 of 15/07/2011 and the specific Ex explosion protection marking. The EAC Ex conformity marking is an essential requirement for the export (placing on the local market) and commissioning of explosion-proof equipment in the Eurasian Economic Union.
Release times and costs: Timeline: up to 3 months Costs: starting from 3.500 EURO The cost of certification depends on the type of equipment, the number models and the certification scheme chosen.
Where and how Certification bodies accredited by National Accreditation Body (Rosakkreditaziya). A register of the National Certification Bodies with the scope of accreditation is available on the official website of the National Accreditation Body. A certification body can issue EAC Ex conformity certificates limited to its own accreditation scope.
Certificate renewal The Technical Regulation CU TR 012/2011 does not provide for the possibility of automatic renewal of conformity certifications upon their expiration. After the certification has expired, the process must be repeated.
